Our Recent Accomplishments

I found it really helpful to set some goals for myself during Luke's deployment. In August, I completed a one mile open water swim, in the ocean of all places. The swim was in a nice, calm harbor, but the water was still cold and salty. I have new respect for people who swim in the ocean regularly. I'm also glad that the shark sightings off Cape Cod were reported after my race.
In September, I completed a sprint triathlon (400 meter swim, 11 mile bike, 5K run). At the end of September I ran my first half marathon. I was so happy to see my mom, Ellie, and Clar at the finish line!
My sister braved the early morning chill to bring the kids to the triathlon. Here's Ellie sporting my finisher's medal and showing off one of her new faces.

Clar was content to sit in his stroller and eat crackers.

Ellie has been working hard on mastering jigsaw puzzles. It's a great activity for rainy days with Grammy.

Of course, Clar has to participate. He likes taking puzzles apart more than putting them back together.
I spend every day with the kids, so sometimes it takes my ancient blog to show me how much they're growing and changing. We're enjoying our time here so much, but we look forward to being back at home in Albuquerque and showing our friends and family there how much we've grown!

Wow! That's impressive!

And swimming's the best! Back in the day...I use to swim along the Maryland/Delaware beach. For years I was a "body-surfer". Then when I worked up to swimming 2 miles at Naval Academy pool I thought, "I'll try the ocean!" You can swim as long as you can hold out; then just ride a wave into shore when you've had enough :)

I remember being tempted to do a swim across the Chesapeake but a tri-athelete/co-worker said, "You probably won't drown but the bacteria will probably kill ya'"

BTW-You guys remain in our prayers!
